Brand of the Month: Make Waves
Darren Clewes: Group Sales Director
Why Did You Choose Make Waves?
Make Waves is a challenger brand in the deodorant/anti-perspirant market, and I’m a sucker for a challenger brand!
I happened across them while searching for a sustainable, subscription-based alternative to big pharma-owned products.
A trial of the product has got me hooked, and I love the message of sustainability and fun scents, combined with ANTI PERSPIRANT that works (many of the other players in the field are deodorant only).
In addition, the brand has a strong designer feel. You can:
- Choose individual scents
- Select the colourway of your applicator
- Build a product that feels personal
Ultimately, it’s a brand that speaks to me and my values!
What Media Would You Propose?
There’s no doubt that in developing a new, challenger brand, raising awareness is the key. As much mass market, ‘stickiness’ as possible will deliver reach amongst the target audience and growth.
For me, there are two obvious places:
- London Underground: the interior tube carriage cards deliver dwell time, long enough to get the anti-perspirant message across, in an environment where personal space is at a premium, and you are acutely aware of the hygiene of the person standing VERY close next to you!
- TV: This media is significantly more cost effective and scalable than it used to be. A highly targeted advert, focusing on eco-conscious young professionals and early adopters with salient messages and a strong CTA, will deliver awareness and reach to the masses.
