Say hello to our new Digital Marketing Executive Matthew
We would like to welcome to our latest digital guru Matthew Ryder.
Matt has joined Forward And Thinking as our new Digital Marketing Executive. Matt previously worked for Yell where he was responsible for creating targeted digital campaigns for a wide variety of clients and industries.
We caught up with Matt to put all our burning questions to him- we love learning new facts about our new recruits!
Here’s what we found out about Matt…
Tell us a bit about your background…
My main career before digital marketing was in care. I started as a carer and worked my way up to managing a care agency who provide care for vulnerable adults. I loved it but extremely long hours made it hard to have any sort of work-life balance.
I decided to leave and noticed that Yell were recruiting people to work on their website production team, which is where I took my first step into digital marketing. I managed to get involved in everything from websites, PPC, social, analytics, SEO and most aspects of digital marketing along with a number of other projects while there over the past two and a half years and managed to build a significant skillset before joining the team here at Forward And Thinking.
What made you want to work in digital marketing?
I’d always had an interest in computers, the internet and websites so after leaving the care industry and being offered the opportunity to work in digital marketing with Yell, one of the UK’s most well-known brands it seemed like a no-brainer and loved it from my first day.
What are your first impressions of working at Forward And Thinking?
The people are great, everyone that I’ve met is very professional and knowledgeable, really friendly and the team comes across as one big family working together with the common goal of providing an amazing service to clients.
Now let’s really get to know you…
When you’re not working what do you get up to?
(When I’m not injured) I like to keep fit, breakdance, draw, travel/visit different places and try new food and beers as well as a bit of gaming.
Who is your favourite superhero?
I’d have to say Thor, aside from the fact he’s awesome, I love anything remotely vikingesque.
Where’s your favourite place in the world?
Iceland, I visited once and fell in love with the place. Such a large proportion of the country is untouched natural beauty, it’s like being in another world and the people seem to really take pride in everything Icelandic while still being extremely welcoming to visitors. It helps that they have natural hot springs all over the place to relax in too!
Who inspires you?
There are a lot of people who inspire me – anyone who has overcome adversity and/or made a huge contribution to humanity provides great inspiration such as the late Stephen Hawking. I’m a firm believer in taking responsibility and making the best of what you have.
If you could travel anywhere in time, where would you go?
I’d love to have the opportunity to see the pyramids and other great architectural and technological accomplishments of past societies and civilisations in the process of being built.
Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?
Elon Musk – I’d love to see what a day in the life of one of the top modern-day businessmen and innovators is like.
Got any phobias you’d like to break?
I don’t think I have any phobias.
Have you ever met anyone famous?
I’ve met a few famous people such as former “World’s Strongest Man”, Brian Shaw and a few soap stars such as Lisa Riley. No A-lister friends I’m afraid.
What is your favourite type of meal out?
Everything – I love food! If I had to choose just one style of food it would be Thai.
